How Your Hair Loss Product Works: Hair Growth 101

Barton Griffen

Once you know the basics of how your hair grows, you can make better choices about using a hair loss product or herbal hair loss remedy. If you can choose the right herbal hair loss product, you can keep your hair growing longer and stronger for years to come.

Hair Follicles: Your cellular powerhouse.

The first two outer layers of your skin are called the epidermis and the dermis. The dermis contains a rich lode of blood vessels, nerve endings, fat reserves, and your hair follicles.

The follicle is depression that penetrates into your dermis, the second layer of skin. This is where all the hair-growing action takes place. Once you understand this, you can see the basic flaw in many hair loss remedies. A hair loss product that you apply directly to your scalp has little chance of penetrating down to your dermis, where all the new hair growth takes place. Some chemical hair loss remedies can do this, but these hair loss products have other drawbacks that we'll get to later.

At the bottom of the follicle there's a bundle of cells called the papilla. The papilla contains all the blood vessels that feed the hair, and also produces new hair cells. The ideal hair loss product feeds and nourishes the cells of the papilla. These cells are highly active in a healthy, hair-producing follicle. The cells constantly divide and create new hair cells. As the new hair cells are formed, older cells are pushed up and out of the follicle, creating the hair shaft.

The follicles go through a regular 3-phase cycle. In the anagen phase, or growth period, the papilla is vigorously active, producing strong, thick hair. The catagen is like the yellow light, when the growth slows down. The telogen phase is the resting period. It's like a red light, where cell production stops. If the follicle is healthy, this last phase is temporary. Soon the light turns green, and the papilla goes back into the anagen phase again, creating new hair.

The papilla is your key to treating and preventing hair loss. Although there are many different causes of hair loss, the effect is always the same: the papilla produces fewer and weaker hair cells, or stops producing altogether. If you can find an herbal hair loss product that nourishes the papilla and stimulates the production of healthy new hair cells, you'll grow stronger, healthier hair.

Conventional Hair Loss Treatment

Conventional hair loss treatment tends to do one of two things. In the first case, chemicals are introduced to stimulate the papilla to more activity. The only FDA-approved chemicals that do this are Minoxidil and Finasteride.

Minoxidil works by making the anagen phase of hair growth last longer. Researchers don't completely understand how it works. Once you take this hair loss product, you have to keep on taking it, because if you stop this hair loss remedy your hair will rapidly return to its old hair loss pattern.

Finasteride slows down the speed of hair loss, but the method isn't completely understood. This hair loss remedy has been known to cause ambiguous genitalia in male fetuses, so it's unhealthy for women to use this hair loss treatment.

Nobody really knows the long-term effects of continuously using these drugs.

Another conventional hair loss remedy is "transplants." In this case, individual follicles are taken from a "donor patch" of healthy hair, and "planted" in the thin or bald areas. If you've listened to salesmen pitching traditional hair loss remedies, you've probably heard the analogy between your hair and a plant. But your scalp is not a patch of topsoil!

Many people have been pleased with the results of this method of hair loss treatment, but it still has some drawbacks. It is expensive, costing upwards of several thousand dollars to complete. It requires that you still have healthy hair on some part of your head, and that you're willing to sacrifice some of it to create thicker hair elsewhere.

Finally, transplanting active follicles doesn't treat the conditions that caused the follicles to become inactive in the first place. Only a hair loss product that nourishes the hair-producing cells can do that.

"Hair Food" vs. Hair Nutrition

A new approach that's showing a lot of promise is that of "feeding" your hair follicles with an herbal hair loss product. Our fast-paced modern lifestyle makes it hard to have an ideal diet, and the food you eat doesn't always pack the nutritional punch that it should.

When your body doesn't get enough nutrients, it may "ration" them. The richest supply will go to your brain and other vital organs, while less important parts of the body, such as the hair follicles, get depleted.

Some herbal hair loss remedies try to "feed" your hair with a special shampoo or lotion for your scalp. The idea is that your hair is like a field of corn, and you can just dump some fertilizer and expect your crop to grow better.

But remember, your scalp is skin, and the main purpose of your skin is to keep things out. While outer skin cells may be able to absorb oil, and become more soft and pliable in the process (think of sunscreen or moisturizer, for example), most topical hair loss products aren't likely to penetrate into the living cells of the papilla, deep in the second layer of the dermis.

If you want to nourish your hair, you need to do it through the blood. Many traditional herbs can do this, but you need the right combination of herbs to perform three crucial tasks:

1. Direct. You need herbs that will boost circulation to the follicles, to make sure the other herbs and nutrients will reach them.

2. Cleanse. Once the formulas reach the follicles, you need some agent that will help remove toxins and the buildup of dead cells and other obstructing substances, so that the papilla are free to absorb fresh nutrients to produce healthier hair cells.

3. Nourish. Finally, the abundant compounds can get in, providing the papilla with the basic building blocks that are critical for growing new hair cells.

Samson's Secret has the right herbal hair loss remedy for improving your hair and rejuvenating old follicles. Our secret is in addressing the root causes of hair loss, so that you can improve and rejuvenate your hair.

When choosing the herbal hair loss product that's right for you, you need to get to the root of the problem. Only the hair loss remedy that feeds your papilla can promote the natural, long-term health of longer, stronger hair. Samsons' Secret is the ideal hair loss product.

How to use cascara sagrada as a constipation remedy

rudy silva

Cascara Sagrada comes from the bark of the buckthorn tree. It stimulates your colon to produce stronger contraction than normal. When it does this, it can work on the most difficult and chronic cases of constipation.

It is one of the herbal constipation remedies with a strong laxative effect. It will be found in many herbal combinations that are mixed for constipation. Cascara has Chrysophanic acid, which stimulates your colon wall to produce peristaltic action. Cascara also contains a chemical called emodin, which controls the strong action of Chrysophonic acid thus producing a balanced laxative effect.

If you use cascara in a constipation remedy mixture, do not use this mixture for more than thirty days. After 30 days take a rest from it. Do not use Cascara in large amounts and for long periods since it can cause intestinal distress and become habit-forming. When you use it, you will see results in 1-2 days.

Cascara Sagrada also stimulates secretions from the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and stomach. These secretions give Cascara additional laxative effects.

Do not use Cascara Sagrada if you have irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, or ulcers. Use Cascara for a limited time. It can become habit-forming and, if used for an extended time, it can increase the risk of colon cancer. Its use also causes you to lose potassium with each bowel movement.

If you have liver problems do not use cascara sagrada full strength. Use it in combination with other herbs. Cascara is known to put a strain on the liver.

You can take Cascara Sagrada as a single herb for constipation. As a single herb, it can cause cramping and nausea. However, I recommend you used it with other herbs. In an herbal combination, the combination can detoxify your colon, tonify your colon walls, cleanse the blood and produce other synergistic actions.

In Michael Murray, N.D., book called The Pill Book Guide to Natural Medicines, he talks about the drug interaction of cascara sagrada,

"Cascara and other stimulant laxatives may decrease absorption of other drugs that pass through the gastrointestinal tract. If you are currently taking an oral medication, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before self-medicating with cascara.

Cascara may potentiate the action of digoxin and other heart medications due to potassium depletion. The use of cascara with thiazide diuretics and corticosteroids may further decrease potassium levels."

Recommend dose for the cascara sagrada, as a single herb, is 350 – 1000mg just before bedtime.

Use 1-4 cascara sagrada powder capsules a night, but do not use these capsules for more than 10 days. Start with 1 capsule a night and increase the amount each day until you get results you want.

For a laxative tea, use one teaspoon of cascara bark in 3 cups of boiling water for 20 minutes. Drink 1-2 cups of tea just before bedtime after it has cooled to room temperature.

Cascara Sagrada is a strong constipation remedy and will help you clean out your colon even if you have chronic constipation. Use it sparely and for a short time.

Back Pain & Muscle Pain - Effective Nonprescription Pain Relief

Danna Schneider

Pain and Stress. They seem almost to go hand in hand - not only
in their negative connotation, but also in their biological
causes and triggers. Back pain and muscle pain is typically
caused by inflammation in the proximity where the pain
originated, which in turn creates internal pressure, activating
pain receptors in the nerve endings and sending the signal
(registered as varying levels of discomfort) to the brain.

Some people are born with a naturally higher tolerance to pain -
what's been dubbed the "pain threshold". Then there are the rest
of us, who have normal or low pain thresholds and if chronic
back pain, muscle pain, or nerve related pain or illness were to
be introduced into our lives, we would be forced to be a
prisoner to "the bottle". The "bottle" being one of the many
prescription painkillers or narcotics prescribed to so many
suffering daily, chronic muscle pain and nerve related pain.

So there must be a better way to control the pain, and manage it
successfully without constant reliance on and possible addiction
to prescription pain medication? And there is. Along with an
excellent new naturopathic, herbal pain remedy recently
introduced to consumers, there are several things you can do to
manage pain effectively, and in turn even reduce stress and
improve your overall mental and physical health - all of which
are key factors in successful pain management.

On of the best ways to manage stress and in turn reduce pain, is
to employ some sort of low impact, muscle soothing exercise,
like basic yoga, tai chi, or water aerobics. These types of
exercises not only stretch the muscles and keep them limber and
lithe, but they effectively "massage" and calm muscles, have
very little impact on joints, strength the supportive muscles of
the back, and can even help reduce inflammation in the body. The
mind-body connection is very strong, there is no doubt - just
start an exercise routine like this and I guarantee your mood,
pain and anxiety virtually melt away.

Exercise also releases and creates endorphins, which are a
natural "antidote" to pain, stress, anxiety, fatigue and
depression. The release of endorphins can actually reverse the
negative effects these afflictions can have on your body. If
you're a habitual exerciser, think of how you lethargic you feel
after a few days of inactivity, and you'll understand this
concept! Inactivity is one of the biggest underlying causes and
perpetuators of worsening pain, lethargy, depression and
anxiety.

Meditation is also a great method to reduce pain, anxiety and
the host of other undesirable problems so prevalent in America
today. Like yoga, and other relaxation techniques, meditation
allows you to focus only on you, your breathing, and your body.
This faciliatates the "harmonizing" of the body and the mind,
the ultimate feeling of well-being, vitality, and tranquility,
all of which will help you manage pain and stress. This will
keep your mind sharp, focused, and better able to deal with the
daily stress life can sometimes bring.

Combine these few simple lifestyle habits with the use of an
herbal pain remedy where needed, or even just employ these
habits alone, and I guarantee, pain will not only be easier to
cope with when it rears it's ugly head, but also will be reduced
greatly in it's severity and frequency. It quite simply is a
necessity to living pain free.

How To Solve Male Impotence Naturally

Darwin Corby

Male impotence affects a small portion of the population, about 10% or so. But until just recently those figures were largely kept quiet due to embarrassment or reluctance to admit a problem exists. It's a guy thing of course.

There is a natural solution to male impotence and we will look at that in a moment. Even so, why is impotence treatment information kept under wraps? This might help answer that question.

Prescription medications are big business and many Doctors are given incentives to promote the latest prescriptions for impotence treatment. Remember when Viagra was hot? Doctors offices were stocked with those four pill sample packs, and they were giving them out like candy. Of course all the latest jokes then were about dirty old men and disgruntled wives. The push for Viagra, Levitra, Cialis and the generic versions of those drugs was on.

So why has a a natural solution to male impotence never become popular before this?

1) No Profit
2) No Profitability
3) No Profits

Basically, all alternative health solutions face the same problem. No interest from big business and minimal support from Doctors trained in the Western Doctrine.

Fact:

A majority of male impotence problems are easily solved with a simple exercise. This impotence remedy can be performed almost anywhere and any time of day.

On a Personal Level:

One incident of male impotence can create concern. Repeat incidents wear down your confidence, create performance anxiety, depression, etc which can cause a viscous cycle. Few men seek out alternatives to male impotence prescriptions, but because you're reading this article you're in the group who would rather avoid possible side effects, dependency, and the prohibitive costs of prescriptions!

A Word of Caution:

If your problem stems from an addiction you'll need to make some difficult decisions and lifestyle changes if sex is important to you. But typically all that's needed is a little effort on your part and a proven program to follow.

Male impotence generally stems from misunderstanding the facts. If you don't have any serious physical trauma like diabetic nerve damage or severed muscle, there is a good chance you can correct the problem quite quickly.

Two Alternatives:

1) Do some research yourself on the PC muscle to understand what it controls and how to strengthen it.

2) Go directly to a proven natural method. Firm Endeavor is a six week course that has quietly helped hundreds of other men looking for a natural impotence remedy.

How To Prevent And Treat Sinus Infections Using Home Remedies

T. McDonald

Sinus infections can be very persistent and debilitating. This article covers some very successful home remedies for the prevention and treatment of sinusitis that I have collected and developed over the years. I use all of these methods regularly and no longer have any problems with my sinuses (or colds and flu either!).

Let's start with prevention. One of the very best ways to prevent and treat sinus infections is to keep your sinus areas (forehead and cheek areas) warm and the mucus membranes moist. It's especially important to keep your forehead and cheeks warm when you sleep. Keeping a towel, hat or warm scarf over these areas as you sleep can really help. This also is a great treatment if you already have a sinus infection.

In addition, using a humidifier in the room where you sleep is an excellent way to prevent and treat a sinus infection. These two suggestions alone can help to prevent your problem, but if not, there are lots of supplements and foods that you can take to keep your immune system in tip top condition to treat and prevent sinus problems.

Using a natural nasal spray made with salt and baking soda has helped me a lot. The recipe for this home remedy is ½ cup water, ¼ teaspoon salt and a pinch of baking soda. Make sure that you use really clean bottled water or filtered water, otherwise you could make things worse. Shake the mixture well and put into a clean nasal spray bottle. This is also an excellent home remedy for allergies. You can use this nasal spray several times a day; it is surprisingly effective as well as cheap!

Vitamins and Foods for Treating and Preventing Sinus Infections

Vitamins, minerals and food supplements make great home remedies for sinus infections and of course they will also help to prevent them. I'm sure you're aware that vitamin C is good, but getting some vitamin C from fresh foods is even more important. A recent study discovered that natural vitamin C from food had a stronger effect on keeping the immune system healthy than synthetic C (almost all the C you buy as a supplement at the store is synthesized).

A few high C home remedy foods to prevent and treat sinus infections are citrus (oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, lemons), kiwi, cabbage, broccoli, strawberries, raspberries and black berries. Vitamin C is a good natural decongestant and will help to dry up inflamed nasal passages due to colds and sinus infections. I eat a whole peeled orange (the white part and pulp are very good for you, better than orange juice) every day during the winter to prevent colds and sinus infections.

Does your vitamin C supplement contain bioflavonoids? This is another important supplement for keeping mucus membranes healthy and restoring your immune system. You can find supplements at your health food store or get them naturally in the white part of citrus fruit as well as in the pulp.

Another very important supplement is vitamin A (not beta carotene). It helps to keep your skin and mucus membranes healthy. Don't take more than 5,000 IU every other day as large doses of A can cause problems. Be sure to purchase a supplement that is derived from a natural source (usually fish oil, synthetic vitamin A is not recommended). Natural vitamin A is found in eggs, dairy products, liver and some fish.

Do you take a naturally derived mixed carotene supplement every day? No longer is beta-carotene enough. Several other carotenoids (lutein, alpha carotene, lycopene) are as important or more so than beta. You especially want to be sure that you get the natural versions of these supplements, not the synthetic. Recent research shows that synthetic carotenes may not help much at all and may even be bad for you. Just make sure that the label mentions natural sources for the supplement (such as palm fruit). Carrots, yams and colored fruits and vegetables such as all berries, broccoli, spinach, chard, romaine lettuce, winter squash and tomatoes are carotene rich.

Minerals and Other Supplements for Treating and Preventing Sinus Infections

Several minerals are important in keeping your immune system in top shape as well. Zinc is the most important of these home remedies. Many people take zinc lozenges when they get a sinus infection, but if you take zinc in advance, you can completely avoid the unpleasantness of being sick. Yet another important mineral is selenium. Be careful not to take excessive amounts of these minerals because they can be toxic in larger doses.

Another little known but very valuable home remedy supplement is NAC or n-acetyl cysteine, which is a powerful antioxidant that is a form of the amino acid cysteine. It helps to increase your body's supply of the very important enzyme, glutathione contributing significantly to your immune system as it reduces congestion.

A few other immune system home remedies to consider are raw garlic, flaxseed and flaxseed oil, echinacea, grapeseed extract and chlorella/spirulina. Don't forget about fresh raw fruits and vegetables. It may sound boring because everyone is telling you to eat your fruits and veggies but the truth is... raw foods are very healthful. They contain all the natural enzymes and nutrients that are cooked out of almost all prepared foods.

People who eat mostly raw food tend to stay healthier than people who eat a lot of prepared and cooked foods. For the best home remedy for a sinus infection, you could go to your local grocery store and look at all the tempting raw foods you'll find there. Then take some home, make a big salad with fruits or vegetables, and enjoy!

In the winter, you can buy many types of frozen fruits to use in smoothies or to eat with yogurt. Frozen fruit still has lots of great nutrients to keep you healthy. Before adding any supplements or changing your diet, consult your health professional.

How To Find The Best Cure For Snoring

Alan Schill

Many sufferers would applaud knowing the best cure for snoring, but just what exactly works and what does not? Experts have varying opinions, but there is one thing that is for certain and that is that you cannot go wrong with a natural cure for snoring.

Among the newest anti-snoring aids that offer a natural snoring remedy is the Sleep Genie, which is often recommended by doctors. During sleep, this new product has been proven to support the jaw while keeping the mouth closed.

Open mouth sleeping is one of the leading causes for snoring, which is why this revolutionary new snoring device often works during the very first use. Could this be among the best cures for snoring? Perhaps the individuals who tried this product could chime in, but they are busy enjoying a restful night's sleep at the moment.

Other cures for snoring are found when people simply decide to sleep on their side instead of their back. Individuals who regularly sleep on their back seem to be more prone to snoring when the fatty tissue in their mouth rests in the back of their throat, which restricts air passage. If it seems impossible to sleep on their side, individuals can rest a large body pillow up against their back to prevent them from turning over through the night.

Some anti-snoring devices, such as the Sleep Genie, allow you to sleep any way that you choose. If you choose to sleep on your back, but have nasal congestion caused by allergies, there are natural cures that may provide relief.

Before going to bed, run hot water in the sink and inhale the steam. The warmth will open up the nasal passages and allow for easier breathing through the nose. In addition, ridding your home of allergens, such as dust, pet hair and cigarette smoke will also help allergy sufferers to get a better snore-free night's sleep.

The use of air filtration systems help to remove dust and other allergens from their air and should be placed in every room throughout the house, including the bedroom.

If the sufferer has been diagnosed as being overweight or obese, this may also be a cause for snoring. A medically supervised diet and exercise program may be the answer to losing weight and the nighttime nuisance of snoring. Not only is weight loss one of the best cures for snoring, but also one of the best for overall health.

This article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be used as, or in place of, professional medical advice. Before beginning any treatment for snoring, please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and remedy.
